"Short stories are tiny windows into other worlds and other minds and dreams. They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner."
Neil Gaiman
Sometimes, actually a lot of the time, children's books say things far better than I ever could.
In quite extraordinary ways, they somehow manage to capture the imagination and lead you on a playful journey through chaotic feelings and disruption toward self-regulation.
I sometimes find it quite difficult when children's books don't always make sense. However, I then remind myself that even if a book doesn't make intellectual sense, it can still make emotional sense. After all, this is what makes books so useful to children and (if we allow it) adults too. Books manage to capture the nonsensical and bizarre aspects of our internal and emotional worlds, and they give us a chance to play. They are a wonderful way to talk to children about their emotions and to promote mental health. So go ahead, get messy, let's read and have some fun!
